Rib night is a good night! My family is always so excited when the answer to ‘What’s for supper tonight?’ is ribs. And this recipe for oven baked ribs is one that we keep coming back to. It has the perfect combination of spices finished with a finger-licking good caramelized barbecue sauce.
The first thing that you need to do when making pork ribs is to remove the thin membrane on the back of the ribs. When you do this you will allow the seasonings to penetrate into the meat better. And the end result will be more tender and less chewy ribs. It is a very easy process, you just need to slide a butter knife under the membrane and along a rib. This will lift the membrane up and you will slide your finger under and gently pull upward. While doing this, you will want to ensure you do not poke a hole in the membrane. This will make it easier to pull it off in one piece.
Once the membrane is off, it is time to add the brown sugar rub. Then these oven baked ribs are slowly cooked in the oven until very tender. They are then slathered in barbecue sauce. My barbecue sauce of choice is Sweet Baby Ray’s: Hickory and Brown Sugar. After they are properly slathered with barbecue sauce, finish them off either in the oven or on the barbecue. Then they are ready to eat! And make sure that you have lots of napkins or wipes as they will be messy, but absolutely delicious!
Serving Suggestions for Oven Baked Ribs
Although my family would be perfectly happy eating just these for supper, I always make some veggies for the side. I love to serve these with a warm potato salad, or for ease, fries. Baked brown beans also always make a good side for ribs. If you are looking for a nice green to serve, I suggest a steamed broccoli or a side salad. Some people love to have cornbread on the side, or a nice slice of garlic bread. There are so many options for sides for these finger-licking good pork ribs.
Oven Baked Pork Ribs
- 2 racks Pork Ribs
- ¾ cup Brown Sugar
- 1 Tbsp Smoked Paprika
- ½ Tbsp Garlic Powder
- ½ Tbsp Chili Powder
- ½ Tbsp Onion Powder
- ½ tsp Salt
- ⅛ tsp Cinnamon
- Barbecue Sauce
- Preheat the oven to 300°F.
- Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs.
- Mix the brown sugar with the spices, then rub and press onto both sides of the ribs.
- Place on a foil lined baking sheet. Then put in the oven for 2½ hours.
- Remove from the oven and slather with barbecue sauce.
- Broil in the oven for about 5 minutes or until brown and bubbly.OrBarbecue until brown and bubbly.
- Cut into individual ribs and serve.
