Simple Beef and Broccoli with Teriyaki Sauce

Beef and broccoli is a simple and delicious meal that I love to make for my family. It is also a super affordable meal, which is a great reason to love this recipe. And my children gobble it all up, including the vegetables, so it is child approved!

The key to tender beef in this stir fry is to ‘velvet’ the strips of beef before cooking. Of course this is not an essential step, but I highly recommend it to ensure a tender beef. To velvet your beef, you will take a teaspoon of baking soda and sprinkle it over the beef. You will then toss it together and allow it to tenderize for about thirty minutes. The baking soda will soften the fibers which produces a ‘velvety’ texture. Once the beef is tenderized, you will need to rinse off the baking soda and pat the strips dry before cooking.

The vegetables that you add to this beef and broccoli stir fry can be adjusted according to your preferences. Besides broccoli, I like to add mushrooms and onions. But if I am on a time crunch, I will use a bag of mixed vegetables. So feel free to make this recipe your own by adding the vegetables that your family will enjoy!

Serving Suggestions for Beef and Broccoli

When I make this meal, I will serve it with rice or cauliflower rice. And because the stir fry has protein and vegetables in it, you do not need to have any other sides. But if you want a side dish, I recommend serving with some spring rolls. My children will always eat spring rolls, so they make the perfect side for this delicious and simple beef and broccoli supper.

  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbsp Ginger, grated
  • 2 Tbsp Cornstarch
  • 2 Tbsp Water

Instructions

  • Place the steak strips in a medium bowl and sprinkle the baking soda over. Toss to combine and let sit for about 30 minutes.

“He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”
